Pianist and new composer from Denmark.

Peter Simonsen is now ready with his debut album "Light". The recordings offer presence, vulnerability, and strength. They offer light and darkness, love and fear - beautiful contrasts and surprising melodies.

Peter Simonsens journey towards composing his own material began on March 21, 2022, when Hyltebjerg Church in Copenhagen caught fire, and everything inside was destroyed. That night, the old organ, the new grand piano, and all of Peter's sheet music collected through 15 years went up in flames. Peter was quite literally devastated by this disaster and found himself in a completely new and unknown situation. As the church was slowly rebuilt, he began to spend his hours by the piano at home. Marked by the sudden events, small fragments of songs started to emerge, and for the first time, he needed to create and play his own songs to find relief. This process has now culminated in 8 piano recordings, which Peter calls his “free space”. These will be released as an album in May 2024, with singles coming up before the album. Peter hopes listeners will be able to connect with the songs and use them to engage with their own mixed feelings and value them. The songs offer presence, vulnerability, and raw power. They encompass light and darkness, love and fear, beautiful contrasts, and surprising melodies arising from the deep. He seeks what he calls a pure, authentic expression. The first single, titled “Trembling Heart,” is about a restless and nervous heart that eventually finds peace and rest. His professional background includes graduating from the Conservatory in Denmark as a rhythmic pianist and then as an organist.
